Jakarta MRT Phase 2 Basic Design
The Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Phase 2A project is a critical 5.8-kilometer extension of the North-South Line, continuing the route northwards from Bundaran HI to Kota Tua, a historically significant area of the city. This vital infrastructure project aims to significantly reduce Jakarta’s severe traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions by extending public transport access to hundreds of thousands of daily commuters.
It involves the construction of seven new underground stations. The construction requires complex engineering, including navigating historical sites and using advanced technology like tunnel boring machines, all while promoting transit-oriented development (TOD) and full integration with other public transport modes.
Tigenco’s Role and Scope of Work
Tigenco was awarded the contract to provide essential mapping survey and geotechnical investigation for the entire project route. Their comprehensive scope of work included drilling 31 boreholes, conducting specialized in-situ tests such as vane shear tests, downhole tests, and multiple parallel seismic tests to accurately determine existing foundation depths.
The survey spanned from kilometer marker KM 15+200 up to KM 21+600, incorporating traditional surveying of all physical details, trees, and a detailed building condition survey. Crucially, Tigenco’s expertise extended beyond technical fieldwork to successfully manage the entire permitting process, navigating the city’s difficult bureaucracy from start to finish
